Setting Up a Custom Bot
Setting Up a Custom Bot
Instead of using the default Metricgram bot, you can connect your own custom Telegram bot for a fully branded experience.
Why Use a Custom Bot?
- Branding -- the bot appears with your own name, photo, and description
- Trust -- members see your brand instead of "Metricgram Bot"
- Professionalism -- perfect for paid communities and business groups
Creating Your Custom Bot
- Open Telegram and search for @BotFather.
- Send
/newbotand follow the prompts to:
- Choose a name for your bot (e.g., "MyCommunity Assistant")
- Choose a username (must end in "bot", e.g., "mycommunity_bot")
- BotFather will give you a bot token. Copy it.
Connecting to Metricgram
- In your Metricgram dashboard, go to Account > Custom Bot.
- Paste the bot token from BotFather.
- Click "Connect".
- Metricgram will verify the token and display your bot's information.
- Add your custom bot to your Telegram groups as an administrator (same process as the default bot).
Customizing Your Bot
Through BotFather, you can also set:
- Profile photo --
/setuserpic - Description --
/setdescription - About text --
/setabouttext - Commands list --
/setcommands
Important Notes
- One custom bot per account -- your custom bot replaces the default Metricgram bot for all your groups.
- Do not share your bot token with anyone. It provides full control over your bot.
- If you revoke the token in BotFather, you will need to update it in Metricgram as well.
